About Stonington, Maine and the surrounding archipelago at Deer Isle

Stonington, Maine (on Deer Isle) is known for some of the most beautiful sea kayaking in New England. The 70+ island archipelago between Stonington and Acadia offers an amazing kayaking experience for all levels – from beginner and family friendly tours to advanced explorers. The archipelago is a hidden gem near the touristy and popular Acadia National Park and Isle Au Haut. Acadia is located just 25 miles Northeast of Deer Isle and only an hour and a half drive away. This coastline is very unique compared to the rest of the Maine coast, with its sheltered waters and easy access to so many islands that make it ideal for sea kayaking tours and adventures. For advanced kayakers, there is always something new to explore and many unique waterways that make for full-day or overnight camping trips to incredible islands with stunning coastlines. On most days you can spot seals, osprey, eagles, porpoises, gulls, and much more while paddling through the archipelago. The massive number of islands provides even the most veteran kayakers new spots to explore every time they visit. We look forward to taking you on a sea kayaking tour around historic Stonington and Deer Isle.
