Stonington, Maine (on Deer Isle) is known for some of the most beautiful kayaking on the East Coast. The 70 plus island archipelago between Stonington and Isle au Haut offers an amazing kayaking experience for all levels. The archipelago is a hidden gem near the touristy and popular Acadia national park, located just 25 miles Northeast and only an hour and a half drive away. This coastline is very unique compared to the rest of the Maine coast, with its sheltered waters and easy access to so many islands that make it ideal for sea kayaking adventures. For beginner kayakers, it is a good location to learn the basics of kayaking and see beautiful landscapes and wildlife. For advanced kayakers, there is always something new to explore and many unique waterways that make for full-day or overnight trips to incredible islands with stunning coastlines. On most days you can spot seals, osprey, eagles, and deer while paddling through the archipelago. The massive number of islands provides even the most veteran kayakers new spots to explore every time they visit.
